# Basics
With ELO, you can manage documents, perform searches, and process tasks using workflows. ELO supports audit-compliant, automated document storage, full text search, version control, and collaboration, enabling efficient work. Additionally, ELO can be expanded with business solutions and integrations.
# Structure of the documentation
The goal of this documentation is to explain the functions of the ELO Java Client.
The following sections provide an overview of the functionalities:
- Program interface, Navigation and use, Important components: Get to know the interface and general use of ELO.
- Accessibility: Learn more about the accessibility features in ELO, e.g. keyboard shortcuts.
- Personalization: Add favorites to the ribbon and create tiles for quick access to frequently used folders.
- Entries: Use the detailed step-by-step instructions and explanations to learn about important features.
Information
If you initially want to test a function that won't affect your ELO repository, the New view function is a good choice.
In the Tasks and Collaboration sections, you'll learn how to complete tasks with ELO and collaborate with others to edit entries in ELO.
# Target audience
This documentation is aimed at users without administrator rights. Administrators can use the ELO Java Client administration (opens new window) manual.
The scope of functions presented here may differ greatly from those in your ELO repository. If you do not find functions described in this documentation, you do not have permission to perform the action.
# Operating system
The functions and usage examples are demonstrated using a Microsoft Windows operating system.
The ELO Java Client can also be used on macOS and Linux. A compatible Java environment for the operating system is required.
# Start ELO
Method
Open ELO via the icon on the desktop.
The login dialog box opens.
If multiple repositories have been created, you can select the repository from the list.
Information
The repositories that you can select are defined by your administrator. You can find more information for administrators in the ELO Java Client administration (opens new window) documentation.
Enter your ELO account name and password. If you have been given a temporary password to log in with, change it during the first session using the Change password function.
Optional: You can change the language in ELO with the drop-down menu.
Alternative: Under Continue with, select a different authentication method, e.g. Microsoft. If prompted, enter the relevant account data.
Select Sign in.
Result
ELO opens.

Available in: User menu > Change password
You can change your password as often as you want.
To change your password, you need your old password.
If your new password is rejected, it does not meet the minimum password requirements at your company.
If you have forgotten your password, contact your system administrator.
